The multimedia performance Romeo and Juliet was the final of the 3rd International Digital Opera Competition in 2021. The premiere took place on October 13–14 at the Yaani Kirik Concert Hall in St. Petersburg. Instead of traditional sets, the walls of the Gothic church came to life through video mapping. Sixteen teams of media artists created episodes based on opera, ballet, and musicals featuring music by Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky, Bernstein, and Gounod. Sergey Novikov was the production designer who combined all the fragments into a single performance.
