Swan Lake

Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake is an immortal masterpiece and an enduring symbol of Russian ballet, telling the tragic love story of Prince Siegfried and the Swan Girl, Odette. Sergei Novikov has created magnificent sets and costumes for this classic in several productions. In the Omsk Music Theatre, his 2021 version immerses the audience in the mystical atmosphere of an enchanted lake, with over 150 hand-sewn costumes and traditional decorations. Novikov’s artistic vision combines baroque opulence with the «grand style» of the Mariinsky Theatre, and the black swans in the corps de ballet symbolize the sinister forces that infiltrate the Swan Kingdom. His work has also toured the United States as part of the World Ballet Series, captivating American audiences with its vibrant painted sets and exquisite handcrafted costumes.
