«Love and Lenin» is a dramatic play by Roman Gabri at the Masterkaya Theatre in St. Petersburg. The action takes place in Paris in 1913-1914, in the Ulyanovs’ emigrant apartment. The plot revolves around the legendary love triangle between Lenin, his wife Nadezhda Krupskaya, and Inessa Armand. The play portrays the leader of the revolution as a complex individual, torn between his emotions and his revolutionary duty. The production was directed by Sergey Novikov.

Very little is known about the Ulyanovs' life in exile. More is known about what happened after. The play is an attempt to imagine Vladimir Ulyanov, an assistant attorney, in a rented apartment in Paris, in exile. They were harmless theorists. How did they live? It's amazing how much one life can hold (and even, phew, how it doesn't end). For example, I remember the year 1970, the centenary of Lenin. The all-Union anniversary idiocy gave a powerful impetus to the folk comic element, which in turn gave rise to excellent anecdotes. Just think of the "Lenin is with Us" three-bedded bed and the "Ilyich's Smell" perfume.Read more -
