Maxim Dunaevsky’s musical «The Empress’s Caprice» was staged at the Moscow Operetta Theatre in June 2022. The production was directed by Sergey Novikov, who created lavish sets and costumes for the show. The story takes place during the reign of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna and tells the tale of the creation of Russian porcelain by the scientist Dmitry Vinogradov, with the assistance of Mikhail Lomonosov. Novikov’s set design showcases the contrast between the opulent palace halls and the humble workshops, while the costumes reflect the fashion of the 18th century, with its oversized wigs and voluminous dresses.
